The Young Centre City Choir The Young Centre City Choir is a non-auditioned community choir directed by the Resident Artists of the Young Centre. The choir was launched in October 2010. Repertoire includes original material created by the Resident Artists as well as many different styles of music (jazz, pop, classical, folk, world, funk, and more). The only fundamental requirements for participation are to have an open voice, heart and mind. The choir performs throughout the year at select Young Centre festivals and events. Rehearsals are held at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in the Distillery District. Rehearsals run from 7pm-9pm, and we ask that choir members arrive about ten minutes before 7pm in order to check in and get settled in the rehearsal space. Choir members are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of rehearsals per semester in order to ensure that we are able to move forward with new material from week to week, as we are working towards performances at the end of term. The next semester of the Young Centre City Choir will be starting on Tuesday, February 26. Rehearsals will run from Tuesday, February 26 until Tuesday, June 4, culminating in an end-of-term concert. This semester we will be working with Waleed Abdulhamid, John Millard, Patricia O'Callaghan, Gregory Oh and Suba Sankaran. How to Join: If you are interested in joining the choir, you can sign-up by contacting Lisa Li, Artistic Coordinator, at lisa@soulpepper.ca. |
