The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is a hub of artistic activity. At any given time, local artists are transforming our many studio and cabaret spaces into areas of open creation and collaboration. From meet and greets, to open studio experiments, to our very own variety show, Saturday Night at the Young, the Young Centre is always alive with many FREE activities to engage and inspire.
The Young Centre City Choir
The Young Centre City Choir is a non-auditioned community choir directed by the Resident Artists of the Young Centre. The choir was launched in October 2010 and we are now accepting members for the upcoming semester.
Repertoire includes original material created by the Resident Artists as well as many different styles of music (jazz, pop, classical, folk, world, funk, and more). The only fundamental requirements for participation are to have an open voice, heart and mind. The choir performs throughout the year at select Young Centre festivals and events. The choir's next performances will take place at the Young Centre's Word Festival and as a part of Theatre Columbus' production of "The Story".
The holiday semester of the Young Centre City Choir will be starting on Tuesday, November 6.
Rehearsals will run for six weeks (last rehearsal on December 11).
We will be holding rehearsals at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts in the Distillery District. Rehearsals run from 7pm-9pm, and we ask that choir members arrive about ten minutes before 7pm in order to check in and get settled in the rehearsal space.
This semester we will be working with John Millard, Patricia O'Callaghan and Gregory Oh.
Choir members are expected to attend a minimum of 80% of rehearsals per semester in order to ensure that we are able to move forward with new material from week to week, as we are working towards performances at the end of term.
How to Join: If you are interested in joining the choir, you can sign-up by contacting Katie O'Halloran, Artistic Administrator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 416.866.8666 ext. 443.
