Our Venues


The Young Centre for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art, performing arts facility with four theatres, and multiple studios.

All works performed at the Young Centre for the Performing Arts are curated and therefore undergo review by our Programming Staff for consideration as a Community Partner. If you are interested in the Young Centre for the production of artistic work (i.e. theatre production, concert, dance show, spoken word event), please submit a proposal including a description of the work, the bios of the key artists involved, as well as your preferred venue and dates.

Proposals for the 2011 calendar year must be submitted to Noora Sagarwala, Program Coordinator (noora@youngcentre.ca) by September 1, 2010. Notice to successful applicants will be provided by October 1, 2010.

We are no longer accepting proposals for 2010.

Each of the venues is capable of multiple stage configuration and equipped for broadcast capability. Included in performance rentals is the use of the Young Centre Box Office, professional front of house staff, and online ticket sales. The Young Centre also has a staff of skilled House Technicians who are there to help get your event up on time, looking and sounding terrific with policies to make sure that your expectations are met at the highest level.

Fresh food and beverage service from our Atrium Café/Bar is available to all patrons within the facility.

Marilyn and Charles Baillie Theatre

The Marilyn and Charles Baillie Theatre is the largest of the Young Centre performance spaces, averaging as 315 seats. Showcasing the award-winning contemporary designs of KPMB Architects, the Baillie is a multi-configurable theatre with orchestra and balcony seating, and its usual proscenium configuration, within a day, can be transformed into either a thrust or arena configuration.


Michael Young Theatre

The Michael Young Theatre is a multi-configurable theatre that seats up to 207 people. The standard proscenium configuration can be transformed into other formats within a day.


Tank House Theatre

The Tank House is a 75 seat “black box” theatre that is multi-configurable and (dependent on configuration can hold up to 110 patrons). Perfect for small theatre productions, lectures (the comfortable velour seats have lectern arms for notetaking) and workshops.


Kevin and Roger Garland Cabaret

The Cabaret is a lovely multifunctional space accommodating up to 90 people. Sprung floors and mirrors lining two walls make it ideal as a movement studio. A control booth overlooks the cabaret allowing lighting and sound to be controlled from outside the room for concerts, corporate events, and wedding ceremonies.


TD Financial Group Studio

Just adjacent to the Atrium, the TD Financial Group Studio is a studio space of 889 square feet, that can double as a small performance space. It has a lighting grid. The floor is sprung with a masonite cover. It can accommodate up to 60 people.


Studio 2

Studio 2 is a 988 square foot studio space that can double as a small performance space. It has a lighting grid and shares a booth with the Tank House Theatre. The floor is sprung with a masonite cover. It can accommodate up to 60 people and is an ideal ancillary space for Tank House Theatre events.


RBC Studio

The RBC Studio, at 1100 square feet, is the Young Centre's largest studio, and can double as a small performance space. It has a lighting grid, sprung floor and can accommodate up to 60 people.


Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Atrium

The Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Atrium is the elegant, soaring space for anything from corporate events to small performing arts activities.

The Young Centre has a full-time Café/Bar, operated by La Creperie, offers delicious food and beverages to all visitors.

William Hutt Reference Library

With the donation of the library from the estate of Canadian theatre luminary, actor William Hutt, the Young Centre launched a reference library that also act as a meeting room for visiting artists and companies. Dependent on availability, it can make a cozy adjunct space for conferences and business events.


Classrooms

During the September to April school year, George Brown Theatre School fills the Martha Burns and secondary classrooms with eager young students. Summer and off school hours the space are excellent as preparatory rooms and breakout spaces for special events or meetings.


The Artists’ Garden

The Young Centre Artists’ Garden is a lovely brickwalled courtyard and garden with attached kitchen, that is full licenseable and can accommodate up to 150. It can be used open-air or tented for small performances, concerts, weddings and other special events.
